The Universities at Shady Grove, Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Education Facility

Project Details

The Universities at Shady Grove, Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Education Facility is a 28,000 square-foot building that houses academic programs in physical therapy, dentistry, mechanical engineering, biotechnology, biological sciences, and more. The LEED Platinum® certified design includes a central atrium gateway space, tiered classrooms, and glass enclosed labs that promote the idea of “science on display.” By using a blend of four of the brick colors existing on campus, the designers were able to give the building its own unique look, that was still faithful to the existing brick palette The brick veneer was the predominant skin material, providing a passive, high-performance building envelope component. Brick special shapes helped bring together the building’s numerous elevations and corners. For this project, Potomac Valley Brick supplied brick from Taylor Clay Products.
